Kaisermarsch

I've been watching Nazi Germany propaganda reels from World War II again. It really is quite fascinating how delusional they were, preaching peace while the Wehrmacht invaded and butchered their neighbors, and exhorting freedom as the SS enslaved and exterminated millions of "sub-humans".

In many ways the current political climate of my country echoes those ancient delusions. Hypocrites who chanted "don't tread on me" but a few short years ago have to the last man fallen silent as all of society's rights are trampled before their very eyes. A select few have even shown the soullessness to publicly and privately cheer on the abuses of human dignity and sacredness.

This country once claimed to stand for something. Now it has fallen for everything. And some among us maintain that the flowery words of the past never really meant anything at all; that they were but a ruse to cloak an evil empire, which was rotting away at American society from within, leaving but an empty façade of democracy for the least astute of the global community to dumbly marvel at.

Now though, none are fooled, save those who have already been gladly consumed, and who have long since resided in the belly of the beast. The cause our forefathers fought and died for has itself essentially passed away. The United States has become just another dictatorship, just another kingdom, just another empire, and we have lost the ability to advance that ancient American cause, which was freedom and justice for all. Neither will anything we accomplish hereafter endure the test of time. Our way has been defeated, and for now, tyranny has triumphed.
